Sexting is when you send or receive a message that has sexual content like a nude picture or video.

Not all teens sext, but those who do can have very different experiences. It can be hard to know whether the person receiving the sext will keep it private or abuse the trust and share it with others.

Sexting can include

  • Sharing images or videos that reveal partial or full nudity or show individuals in underwear or suggestive poses.
  • Sending or receiving sexually explicit messages.
  • Performing sexual acts or activities while engaging in a live stream.

Here’s what we have to SAY!

  • Sexting can be difficult – and even impossible – to take back or undo.  Once an image or video is shared online, it can spread beyond your control.
  • People can experience bullying, harassment and other mistreatment after sending a sext ( see also sextortion / revenge porn )
  • Images can later be used for revenge porn and other image-based abuse,
  • Sexting can feel right at the time, but some people feel guilty, ashamed, or regretful afterwards.
  • Depending on your age, location, and other circumstances, sexting can sometimes be illegal.
