Self-care is not selfish. It’s an essential part of taking care of yourself and living a healthy, happy life.

When we feel stressed, overwhelmed or burnt out, we can neglect the basics of looking after ourselves. Exercise, nutrition, and sleep health all affect our brain and mental health, which is why it’s so important to self-care – especially if you are starting to struggle with your mental health.  Self-care improves our relationship with ourselves and with others.

Exercise regularly

Exercise is a great way to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost energy levels. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days. It doesn’t have to be about weight loss or muscle gain to be beneficial. Find ways to move your body that work for you and you enjoy.

Food

Eat healthy food

Eating a healthy diet provides your body with the nutrients it needs to function properly. Choose a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and limit processed foods, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats. Diet is tricky to discuss because you can’t always control what you eat or whether you get enough. If your family struggles to get enough food, contact an organisation that can help.
