You and some male friends are hanging out together on the street. A girl you know from school is walking along on the other side of the street. The guys you are with run up to her and scream right in her face. They think this is hilarious and are falling about laughing. The girl looks scared and upset.
What action would/could you take?
What we SAY!
- You could speak up and say something like “this really isn’t funny guys”.
- You could show your disapproval in your facial expressions and body language.
- You could discourage the others in your group from laughing or joining in.
- You could walk away from your group and check on the girl, is she okay?
- These types of sexist behaviours help foster an environment that promotes inequality and can lead to other problems such as violence against women.
